San Bernardino County, CA – On Wednesday, June 6th, 2018, San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor James Ramos became President of the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA), an agency that serves over 2.1 million residents.

Supervisor Ramos was recommended by a nominating committee consisting of one member of the Board of Supervisors (Chairman Robert Lovingood) and two members from each of the three subareas: Mountain/Desert, East Valley, and West Valley. Ramos will serve in this capacity for one year.

Supervisor Ramos’ qualifications for the position includes recently serving as vice president of the agency, former vice chair and chair of the SBCTA Transit Committee, chairman of the County of San Bernardino, an alternate director on the Metrolink Board of Directors also known as the Southern California Regional Rail Authority and recently being elected to serve as chair of the Local Agency Formation Commission for San Bernardino County (LAFCO).

“I will continue to work closely with board members to find solutions to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce long commute times,” stated Supervisor Ramos. “Improving our regional transportation system will be the principal focus as I proudly take on this new leadership role.”

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority is responsible for cooperative regional planning and furthering an efficient multi-modal transportation system countywide.

The agency is a championed supporter of freeway construction projects, regional and local road improvements, train and bus transportation, railroad crossings, managing the systems of call boxes, ride- sharing, congestion management efforts, and long-term planning studies.
