EMWD Completes Lead Testing at Public Schools
Perris, CA — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has completed lead testing at all public schools within its service area and all schools are in compliance with public health standards set by the California Department of Drinking Water (DDW).
California Assembly Bill 746 (2017) required water providers to test lead levels by July 1, 2019, in all public schools within their respective service areas.
EMWD conducted tests at 111 public schools within its 555-square mile service area. Private schools are also eligible to be tested and may still request testing to be performed by EMWD until November 1, 2019.
EMWD collected a total of 553 samples, including those from distribution systems that serve schools.
EMWD conducts more than 40,000 water quality tests annually to ensure homes, schools and business receive high-quality water that meets all state and federal drinking water standards. EMWD has also provided Water Bottle Fill Stations to more than 90 schools in its service area to promote its safe and reliable tap water. The water bottle fill stations are similar to drinking fountains, but include an overhead filling system to easily fill reusable water bottles.
“We are proud to have partnered with our public schools to promote public health and provide parents and students confidence in the water served at schools,” EMWD President Ronald Sullivan said.
